Ringsted is situated in the middle of Zealand and has 31.000 inhabitants. It is 60 km west of Copenhagen and only 30 minutes drive from Copenhagen Airport. The community is well known as an agricultural community, for its agricultural industry, beautiful countryside and the town for its big Congress Center. The new library in Ringsted was built in 1985 in a very modern, flexible design which is conducive to an informed society. It is surrounded by an English styled garden with an old pavillon next door which is used for different cultural activities. On the opposite side of the street is a new cultural center for children and four sports halls.
The main aim of Ringsted Library is to be a library for everyone in the community. To present and make available our material with convenient opening hours, as best we can. To ensure the satisfaction of the public by maintaining a dynamic cooperation with the library´s consumer council.
Ringsted Library has no subsidiary branches but a mobile library which distributes media and information mainly to the rural districts surrounding Ringsted. We are able to offer information, literature, newspapers, public information, a publication service, cd´s, cd-rom´s, videos, audio books and a shut-in service. The computer system offers many IT-services to the public. There are also different types of cultural programs for children and adults, including an exhibition area.
Ringsted Library is part of a network organisation and with a well qualified staff who as well as their daily work are involved in several projects on national, regional and local levels to make an up front library for everyone in the future.
